Mohali, July 9

Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu and district in-charge of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Darshan Dhaliwal accused the former chief of the Dera Bassi municipal council, Amritpal Singh, and his brother Satpal Singh of grabbing the land belonging to the civic body.

The MLA has written to the Mohali Deputy Commissioner, seeking action against them in the alleged Rs 40-crore land grab case. He has sent a copy of the letter to Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. Sandhu has demanded a vigilance probe into the matter, saying that action should be taken at the earliest so that the land could be recovered from them.

He added that the Dera Bassi municipal council, in its February 16 meeting, had included in its agenda to get back the land in question but no action was taken. The land is said to be in Madhopur and Rauni villages. The MLA accused the two of tampering with land records to show themselves as owners of the land.

Sandhu added that government officials were involved in this and now the accused were using their political influence to avoid action.
