Prof Tomar resigns as Dean Research

CHANDIGARH: Prof SK Tomar resigned from the post of Dean Research on Sunday.

Chandigarh, December 9

Prof SK Tomar resigned from the post of Dean Research on Sunday. The PU Syndicate on Saturday had resolved for his removal and ruled for giving prominence to seniority for the post.

He had taken the charge on November 26.

“After going through the news item regarding the discussion on my appointment as Dean Research of PU in the Syndicate meeting held on December 8, I came to know that Syndicate members deliberated that the senior-most professor of the university be appointed as Dean Research. Moreover, PUTA has also submitted the same representation to your office, he said.

“Keeping in view the sentiments of the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) and disagreement of majority of Syndicate members over my appointment, I am unable to continue as Dean Research and I, hereby, submit my resignation,” said Prof Tomar in his resignation to Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar. “Embarrassment and inconvenience caused to the teaching faculty and researchers is deeply regretted,” he added.

“Prof Tomar is a respected member of our fraternity. The whole episode has caused embarrassment to me,” said PUTA president Prof Rajesh Gill. The PU VC had dissolved Research Promotion Cell (RPC), which comprised Prof Ramanjit Kaur Johal as Director and Associate Director Prof Rajat Sandhir. Besides, there were four more PU teachers as members of RPC. The tenure of RPC was till November 2019. — TNS
