The affiliation committee of Panjab University (PU) on Friday disallowed admissions to Rayat Bahra College of Law at Hoshiarpur, Guru Nanak College of Law at Dalewal in Hoshiarpur and Government College of Yoga Education and Health, Sector 23, Chandigarh.

Rayat Bahra College of Law didn’t provide the building plan. They were to appoint an assistant professor too.

Guru Nanak College of Education, Dalewal, was required to appoint 15 faculty members, which they didn’t.

The Government College of Education and Health, Sector 23, Chandigarh, was required to appoint five regular faculty members as per the National Council of Technical Education, all resource persons to be retained till regular faculty is appointed and one computer attendant needed to be appointed, which it failed to comply with.

There were objections to MBA course at the Institute of Management, Sector 10, Chandigarh, which is located at DAV College. An inspection committee will visit the college within a week and submit its report regarding the appointment of teachers as well as the Director-Principal. Till then, admissions won’t be allowed. An inspection committee had earlier called for the appointment of six faculty members, Director-Principal, and furnishing of classrooms. The college had replied that they were in process of making appointments and furnishing rooms.

Senator Ashok Goyal, who is a member of the affiliation committee, said, “Last year, they were granted affiliation, subjected to the direction that they would take students on the basis of the Common Admission test (CAT). But, they admitted students on the basis of the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) as well.”

The Government College of Art, Sector 10, Chandigarh, has been asked to appoint the Principal. At present, the charge is with an IAS officer. They had also been asked to appoint four regular faculty members to which the college replied that they had written to the UPSC for it. The affiliation has been granted for MFA-I and II and also for a special advance diploma in fine arts for hearing and speech impaired and mentally challenged.

GGN Khalsa College of Ludhiana has been denied permission for MSc Physics.

Guru Nanak College of Education, Ludhiana, was seeking 150 seats of BEd, but only 50 were granted.

There were shortcomings in a number of colleges. They were asked to complete the shortcomings till August 31. “If they do not remove the deficiencies, the return of the admitted students wouldn’t be accepted,” said Dr Satish Sharma, chairman of the committee. The PU had allowed the GMT College of Education, Ludhiana, for participating in the BEd admissions for 2018-19. The issue was raised in Friday’s meeting but the college was allowed to remove deficiencies by August 31.
