Panjab University Campus won the men’s title by defeating ITBP on the concluding day of the Chandigarh State Volleyball Championship at the Sector 7 Sports Complex here today.

The Panjab University lads took the first set 25-17, but ITBP came back strongly to win the next set 20-25. However, the Panjab University lads came through the next two sets, which were quite competitive, taking them 26-24 25-22 to claim the title. Vicky and Paras, who attended the Youth National Camp, were the best performers for the title winners. ITBP’s Nikhil was the standout performer for them but in a losing cause.

Athletic Club (Sector 7) won the women’s final by defeating DAV College (Sector 10) in a keenly-contested final. The Sector 7 team won the first two sets 25-22 25-16, but DAV College put up a better show thereafter to take the next two sets 22-25 19-25.

In the final set, both teams fought hard but it was the Sector 7 team which won, with a 15-10 scoreline in the set. Shweta and Reena were the best performer for the Sector 7 team, while Shiwani and Jagriti played well for the Sector 10 team.

Earlier, in the men’s semifinals, ITBP faced tough resistance from Athletic Club before logging a 25-22 25-17 19-25 20-25 19-17 victory. In the other semifinal, Panjab University lads defeated DAV College 25-20 25-23 25-22.
