Patiala, February 21
The Department of Development of Punjabi Language at Punjabi University (PU) celebrated the World Mother Tongue Day here today. The annual Giani Lal Singh Memorial lecture marked the celebrations. Shamil, a journalist, poet and thinker delivered the lecture, which was presided over by PU Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof BS Ghuman.
“Modern researches have proved clearly that a language could be best promoted by providing primary education in one’s mother tongue,” said the VC.
Shamil said many dialects were evolving even in foreign lands on the pattern of different dialects used in Punjab. He referred to proper translation and lexicographic for standardisation of Punjabi.
