Harpreet Brar returned with a five-wicket haul, while Jass Inder bagged four, to help Punjab register an innings and 145-run win over Tripura in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy, at Dhruv Pandove Stadium, in Patiala, on Monday. 

After a perfect batting performance on Sunday, Punjab bowlers maintained the momentum to close the match on the third day. 

Defending 409 runs, Brar bowled well to claim 5/75 while Inder took 4/37 to sent visitors packing on 264 runs in the second innings.

Earlier, resuming from their overnight total of 501/9, Punjab boys ended their innings on 529. Overnight unbeaten pair of Ikjot Singh Thind and Arshpreet Singh played four overs to extend their lead to 409. Arshdeep was the last man out for Punjab after he fall prey to Rajat Dey on 16 off 12 balls, with two boundaries and a six. 

Thind meanwhile left unbeaten on 84 off 111 balls, with 10 boundaries. Dey (3/42) and Arjun Debnath (3/105) were the two best performers for Tripura, while Neelambuj (1/168), Shakil Gan (1/21) and Tapash Mandal (1/21) also claimed wickets.

Just like the previous innings, Tripura started their second essay on a shaky note. They lost opener Joy Kishan Sinha (1), on the team's total of seven, off Arshdeep. Thereafter, Arkaprabha Sinha and Riman Saha took the command. 

The duo raised a 63-run partnership for the second wicket to take the total to 70. However, Brar came to the attack and accounted for Sinha (54 off 70 balls, with 12 boundaries). 

Rajat Dey then joined Saha and the duo raised another fruitful partnership of 44 ruins to take the total to 114. The stand was broken by Brar, as he came in to claim Dey (23 off 28 balls, with three boundaries and a six). 

Already having two wickets in his kitty, Brar came up with more perfection. He bowled a tight spell to put the visitors on back foot, while Inder took advantage of that. Inder claimed set batsman Saha (50 off 100 balls, with seven boundaries), Dipayan Debbarma (13) and Shyam Shakil Gan (16) to reduce the side to 158/6.

After a poor show, Sayanian Debbarma and Neelambuj provided some relief for the side. The duo played for 16 overs and gathered 51 runs for the seventh wicket to take the total to 209, however failed continue their stand. Brar again came to the rescue of the hosts as he claimed Sayanian (18 off 52 balls), followed by the wicket of Tapash Mandal (0) on the very next ball to reduce the side to 209/8. 

Arjun Debnath then in company of Neelambuj raised a 49-run stand for the eighth wicket to take the total to 258. However, Inder claimed Debnath (8 off 37 balls) to complete his four-wicket haul. Joydeep Bhattacharjee joined Neelambuj but only to add four runs for the partnership. Neelambuj (81 off 98 balls, with six boundaries and five sixes) was the fifth victim of Brar and last man to down for Tripura on 262. Punjab boys got a major boost as they claimed seven points from this win .
