Chandigarh: Punjab rowing team won a gold and a silver medal each in the recently-concluded 39th Junior National Rowing Championship in Bhopal. Amandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Shahwinder Singh and Karam Chand won the gold medal in the coxless-four competition, while Arwinder Singh and Shaganpreet Singh bagged the silver medal in the coxless-two event. Golf camp from Oct 19

Chandigarh: A three-day golf camp for kids will be held at the Chandigarh Golf Club from October 19. The camp will be conducted by coach Ajay Gujral for golfers aged between 6 and 16 years, said the organisers. During the camp, the trainees will be given lessons in fundamentals of the sport. They will also be provided golf equipment. Non-members can also register for the camp, the organisers added. The interested golfers need to submit their entries before October 18. TNS

Tanveer wins silver

Chandigarh: Tanveer Singh won a silver medal, while Dhruv Mittal and Jatin claimed a bronze medal each in the recently-concluded CBSE North Zone (U-19) Taekwondo Championship. In the girls’ category, Ruchi Kapoor won the silver medal, while in the boys’ 

U-14 category, Manan Sharma and Amrit Kumar claimed a bronze medal each. All the athletes study at Shishu Niketan Public School, Sector 22. TNS

Punjab women triumph

Chandigarh: Punjab women’s team clinched a gold medal in the 6th National Rafting Championship held in Manali. The team comprised Veerpal Kaur, Ukardeep Kaur, Manisha, Khushpreet Kaur, Arshpreet Kaur and Bhavna Tomar. TNS

GGS cagers clinch title

Chandigarh: Guru Gobind Singh (GGS) College for Women, Sector 26, has won the Panjab University Inter-College Basketball Championship. KCW, Ludhiana, finished second, while GCG, Ludhiana, claimed the third position. TNS

Roller skating meet from Oct 20

Panchkula: Panchkula District Roller Skating Association will organise the District Roller Skating Championship at Blue Bird High School, Sector 16, here, from October 20. The top performers in the two-day competition will be selected to represent the district in the Haryana State Roller Skating Championship, the sports body said. The interested skaters need to register for the tournament before October 19. TNS 

Carrom c’ship from Nov 9 

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Carrom Association will organise the 19th Raj Kumar Babuta Memorial Prize Money Ranking Carrom Tournament at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, from November 9-11. Participants can compete in senior, junior and sub-junior age-groups in both boys’ and girls’ categories, the sports body said. A player below 18 years of age as on December 31, 2018, can compete in the junior category, while those below 14 years on the said date will be eligible to participate in the sub-junior category, they added. The top eight ranked players will be awarded ranking points which would be taken into consideration while selecting the local team for the upcoming national championship. The interested players need to submit their entries before November 5. TNS
