Patiala, July 13

Punjabi University has postponed dates for conduct of interviews for admissions to various courses. The decision has been taken in view of delay in declaration of results by the examination department.

Now interviews for courses which were supposed to be started from this week has been extended to the next week. Interviews for (MA), MCA, MPT will be held on July 20 and 21. Interviews for courses of the MBA will be held on July 26 instead of July 16 and 17.

Likewise, the dates of interviews for courses at regional centres, neighbouring campuses have also been postponed. Interviews for courses in Master of Arts (MA) will now be conducted on July 20 with a delay of four days.

As per the university’s official website, results of almost all examinations conducted in May this year are pending. The University has declared results of a handful of courses of BA, BSc, and a semester of Master of Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC). Results of all other exams remain pending. This has not only delayed the university’s full calendar year process, but also causes inconvenience to students desirous of taking admission elsewhere.

University Vice Chancellor (VC) BS Ghuman last Sunday held an urgent meeting in his office to review the progress of declaration of results. He expressed the need for timely declaration of results.

Balwant Singh, Deputy Registrar in the Admission Cell said, “The admission process of conducting interviews has been postponed due to delay in declaration of results. While the other process remains the same, the dates of interviews have been postponed in the interest of the student and applicants.” While Dean, Academic Affairs and controller examinations, Dr GS Batra was not available for comment despite repeated attempts.

Contractual staff’s strike enters Day 10

The ongoing protest of outsourced contractual staff in Punjabi University entered Day 10 on Friday. Meanwhile, areas in the university posed a dirty look with garbage strewn on roads and outside the administrative blocks.

The Democratic Student Organisation (DSO) also supported the contractual staff and observed a one-day hunger strike with them.
