Bumpy roads pose a threat to commuters in the city. As the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, lacks funds for the re-carpeting of roads, the situation may turn worse in the rainy season.

Navin Manglani, president of the Chamber of Chandigarh Industries, said many slip roads in the Industrial Area required immediate repair. He said paver blocks had come off in the Industrial Area, Phase II, creating problems for commuters.

Another industrialist, Arun Mahajan, said the road area near the Haryana Roadways depot in the Industrial Area, Phase I, needed immediate repair. In residential areas of Sectors 18, 21 and 22 besides the Sector 17/22 roundabout, roads need re-carpeting.

Pawan Kumar Aggarwal, a resident of Sector 32, said poor condition of roads in parts of city had been giving a tough time to commuters. Rajesh Kumar, a coummuter, said the situation turned worrisome in the night, increasing chances of mishaps.

Sukhpal Singh, another commuter, said the risk of mishaps was higher in the night, especially in the areas that lack proper lighting arrangements. Manoj Kumar, Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation, said they carried out the patch work, wherever needed. “Roads will be re-carpeted once we get sufficient funds for it,” he said.
