Rs 11.74 lakh relief for mishap victim’s kin

CHANDIGARH: The Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of Rs 11.74 lakh to the family of a 39-year-old man who was killed in a mishap last year.

The Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of Rs 11.74 lakh to the family of a 39-year-old man who was killed in a mishap last year.

As per the claim application, the accident took place around 8.30 am on April 1 when Harmal Singh was going towards Sohara village on the Kharar-Kurali road on his scooter. He had stopped his scooter for a while when a car (HP-28C-0511) driven by Amarnath Sharma came from the Kurali side and hit the two-wheeler. Harmal fell on the road and suffered serious injuries. He succumbed during treatment at the PGI.

Harmal’s widow Rajni, minor sons Gagandeep and Amrit and mother Mukhtiyar Kaur had claimed a relief of Rs 50 lakh, stating that the victim was working as civil contractor and mason and earned Rs 30,000 per month.

A notice was issued to Amarnath Sharma and the car owner, Vijay Kumar, who submitted that no accident took place with their vehicle.

After hearing the arguments, the tribunal directed the National Insurance Company to pay a compensation of Rs 11,74,420 to Harmal’s family. — TNS
