Chandigarh: Around Rs 80,000 was stolen from the donation box of a gurdwara here. According to the police, complainant Gurdayal Singh reported that an unknown person had stolen cash from the donation box of a gurdwara in Khuda Ali Sher village on May 23.

Jail inmate ends hunger strike

Chandigarh: In the presence of District and Sessions Judge Balbir Singh, jail inmate Avtar Singh Saini ended his hunger strike on Friday. Saini had submitted an application for ending his strike in view of the fact that his request application for granting parole and release of convicts who had completed their sentence was put in process by the jail authorities in pursuant to letter issued by the Department of Prisons (Home), Punjab, to the Director General of Police (Prisons), Punjab. Saini decided to end his hunger strike by taking a glass of juice offered by Superintendent of Model Jail, Chandigarh. TNS
