CHANDIGARH:Sahibjeet Singh scored three goals to help Hockey Chandigarh defeat Sports Control Board 7-4 on the opening day of the 9th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship (A Division), in Aurangabad, on Sunday.

Sahibjeet Singh scored three goals to help Hockey Chandigarh defeat Sports Control Board 7-4 on the opening day of the 9th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship (A Division), in Aurangabad, on Sunday.  

Sahibjeet netted the first goal in the eighth minute, followed by two more goals in the 48th minute and 60th minute. Skipper Maninder Singh added two (45th minute, 47th minute), while Hashim (2nd minute) and Harpreet Singh (9th minute) added one each to the tally. Umashankar (30th minute, 40th minute), Manip Kerketta (24th minute) and Du Mokshit (50th minute) scored for Services Sports Control Board. Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu stunned Hockey Punjab 5-4. 

S Karthi scored four goals in the win. He posted the first in the sixth minute, followed by more in the 10th minute, 35th minute and 50th minute. K Tiras scored the final goal in the 51st minute. Meanwhile, Punjab goals were scored by Parteek Sharma (19th minute, 51st minute), Karajwinder Singh (17th minute) and Sudarshan Singh (22nd minute). Meanwhile, Hockey Haryana brought some good news for the region as they defeated Manipur Hockey by a fine margin seven goals. Boby Singh Dhami (3rd minute, 45th minute) struck twice, while captain Parmeet (3rd minute), Pawan (15th minute), Ankush (36th minute), Rimanshu (44th minute) and Pankaj (59th minute). Hockey Jharkhand managed to defeat Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy by a solitary goal. Deepak Soreng scored the only goal of the match in the 45th minute. 

Hockey Gangpur, Odisha, meanwhile Delhi Hockey 3-3 draw. Puran Kerketta (18th minute), Sibren Lakra (37th minute) and Sudeep Chirmako (43rd minute) scored a goal each for Odisha, while captain Amit (19th minute), Chetan Sharma (34th minute) and Sahil Kumar (36th minute) scored for Delhi Hockey.

Uttar Pradesh Hockey beat Hockey Maharashtra 7-1 with Gopikumar Sonkar scoring five goals (3rd minute, 4th minute, 34th minute, 45th minute, 52nd minute). Ajay Yadav (33rd minute, 44th minute) also added two.  Hockey Maharashtra's only goal was scored by Aamid Khan (28th minute). 

Hockey Odisha and Steel Plant Sports Board shared the points by playing a 1-1 draw. Hockey Odisha took the lead in the 42nd minute through the stick of Subas Barla, but Steel Plant Sports Board equalized in the 57th minute through Kingson Thokchom.

RSPB stun Haryana eves  

Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) stunned hosts Hockey Haryana with a 8-0 verdict to enter the final of the 9th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2019 (A Division), in Hisar, on Sunday. 

Vandana Katariya pumped in three goals (6th minute, 16th minute, 38th minute), while Anupa Barla pulled off two (44th minute, 45th minute) to star in the team's win. Navjot Kaur (18th minute), Deep Grace Ekka (48th minute) and Neha (51st minute) scored a goal each for the defending champions. In the second semi Hockey Madhya Pradesh beat Hockey Maharashtra by a slim margin of 2-1. 

Pooja Rani converted a penalty corner in the 34th minute to put Madhya Pradesh in lead. In the 47th minute, Narender Kaur doubled the lead. Hockey Maharashtra tried to make a comeback into the match and scored a goal in the 53rd minute through the stick of H Lalruatfeli. However, it was not enough for them as Hockey Madhya Pradesh secured a 2-1 win to advance to the final.
