Chandigarh, December 5
The Panjab University Senate will take a final call on Academic Performance Indicator (API) score for direct recruitment of associate professor and professor in a meeting to be held on December 15.
The Senate will discuss the minutes of meeting of a PU panel, which decided the API score for direct recruitment of associate professor and professor.
It was observed that for direct recruitment of associate professor, the requirement of an API score was 300 from Category-II and III (cumulative) and for the post of professor, it was 400 from Category-II and III (cumulative). The Category-II consists of professional development, co-curricular and extension activities. Category-III consists of research and academic contributions.
Prof Karamjeet Singh, who is now PU Registrar, had pointed out that it was desirable that while appointing associate professor and professor due consideration to research and academic contribution be given and a candidate must not be allowed to accumulate all of 300 or 400 marks from Category-II only.
A committee, comprising Prof AK Bhandari, Prof Sukhbir Kaur, Prof Sanjay Kaushik and Prof Karamjeet Singh, deliberated on the suggestion. They observed that in career advancement scheme (CAS) promotion, the University Grants Commission had stipulated that for promotion to associate professor, the API score needed was 50 from Category-II and 75 from Category-III and for professor it was 50 from Category-II and 100 from Category-III.
They further observed that in view of that, the API score for direct recruitment should also be in the same proportion as in the case of the CAS promotion.
They decided that for direct recruitment to associate professor, the API score requirement should be 120 from Category-II and 180 from Category-III.
For professor, it was recommended that it should be 130 from Category-II and 270 from Category-III.
