SGGS stun Punjab Police

CHANDIGARH:Raman scored a brace as Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) College stunned defending champions Punjab Police 3-1 on the third day of the Marshal Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament here on Thursday.

Chandigarh, April 18

Raman scored a brace as Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) College stunned defending champions Punjab Police 3-1 on the third day of the Marshal Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament here on Thursday.

Harpreet put SGGS ahead in the 18th minute, and 12 minutes later Raman struck to help the side lead the first-half 2-0.  

After the break, SGGS kept up its attack on the defending champions, but Gurbaj Singh successfully converted a penalty corner for Punjab Police to reduce the margin and keep the side in the match. SGGS though maintained the tempo and Raman scored in the 59th minute to seal a 3-1 win for his team.  

Army thrash SMS Academy

In another match, Indian Army thrashed SMS Academy, Karampur, 9-1. 

Army dominated the match right from the beginning with Binay striking as early as in the 7th minute of the match. 

Sanjay Toppo added to the lead in the 13th minute, while Chandan made it 3-0 before the half-time. 

SMS Academy earned a penalty corner in the 36th minute and Rajeev converted it successfully to reduce the margin. But Birja Ekka scored immediately for Indian Army to maintain the three-goal lead. 

Dung Dung then struck in the 49th and 50th minutes to make it 6-1 for the Army. In the remaining few minutes, Chandan scored two more goals (54th and 58th) while Pawal Lakra (55th) hit home once to earn a 9-1 win for the side.
