The Zirakpur police have booked three persons, including two women, for allegedly cheating a shopkeeper with fake gold coins worth Rs 10 lakh. The shopkeeper had approached the police following which an FIR was registered.
According to the police, complainant Arun Kumar Dubey, a resident of Zirakpur, told them that a couple came to his shop. The man introduced himself as Manoj. He stated that the suspect, after a few days, again visited his shop. He allegedly told him that he needed some money for his sister’s marriage and he was searching for someone to sell gold coins.
The suspect voluntarily gave him a gold coin and asked him to meet the next evening, if he wanted to check the remaining coins.
The police said the complainant took the coin to a goldsmith and got to know that it was real. Arun met Manoj the next evening and informed him that he would buy all his gold coins for Rs 10 lakh.
The suspect then called Arun near Zirakpur. Arun reached the spot, along with a bag of cash, and met Manoj with another woman. He bought all his gold coins and handed over the bag containing cash. The suspects took the money and left the spot. Arun, wanting to know if the coins were real, approached a goldsmith in Zirakpur, where he was told that all coins given to him were fake.
Going with the statement of the shopkeeper, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the the IPC.
