A 28-year-old resident of nearby Jhandia village kidnapped a six-year-old girl and left the victim at a desolated place in the Nurpur Bedi area after raping her on Saturday night. The police arrested the accused identified as Nirmal Kumar after the victim was found at Bahman Majra village on Sunday morning.
The local SHO, Desraj, said the victim came out of her home to answer nature’s call when Nirmal, who was passing by, took her away on his motorcycle. He took the girl in fields and raped her, the SHO added.
After the accused left the spot the victim tried to search for her home. She spotted a light in a house and reached Bahman Majra village.
When the girl was found missing by her relatives on Saturday night they informed the police following which a search was launched in the surrounding areas to locate her, said Desraj.
The girl, however, was handed over by the Dhamana village sarpanch to her relatives and later, admitted to the Ropar Civil Hospital, he added.
A case under Sections 363, 366 and 376 of the IPC and Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act was registered against the accused, the SHO said.
