Fatehgarh Sahib, October 21
To commemorate the supreme sacrifice of police martyrs, the district police organised a function at the Police Lines here today.
Sixteen families of police martyrs of the district were honoured on the occasion. SSP Alka Meena was the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering, the SSP said it was a matter of proud for the Punjab Police that their 693 officers and jawans sacrificed their lives for the national cause.
She said: “It becomes our moral duty to extend all possible help to all 16 families of martyrs, who have lost their bread earner for our safety”.
The Deputy Commissioner said he had huge regard for the police. The district administration had issued instructions to all staff members and officials to sort out the problems of the families of the martyrs on a priority basis. He called upon NGOs to come forward to extend all help to these families.
Rajiv Vashisht, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Parshant Verma, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Harpal Singh, SP (Investigation), HS Sandhu, SP (H), and Dr Ravjot Grewal, IPS, ASP, also paid tributes to the martyrs.
A two-minute silence was observed in the respect of the martyrs on the occasion.
