Punjabi University in collaboration with the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) today organised an awareness rally to sensitise farmers against burning of paddy stubble in the state.

Students of Punjabi University and NSS volunteers went around in various villages to hold discussions with farmers regarding affects of burning paddy straw on health of the people and quality of land.

Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor (VC), Dr BS Ghuman, led the rally from the university campus till the office of the Punjab Pollution Control Board where he addressed farmers on the issue of crop residue burning on the social media.

“Health cannot be sacrificed for technological advancements. We should make conscious efforts to transform awareness rallies into a crusade to save our environment and restore ecological balance,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

He also appreciated the fact that cases of stubble burning in the state had reduced as compared to last few years.
