Panchkula, July 12

In two separate suicide incidents, an 18-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl committed suicide in the town on Thursday.

In the first case, the deceased was identified as Sandeep, a resident of Rajiv Colony, near Sector 17, who allegedly committed suicide at his house on Wednesday night.

The family of deceased along with other colony residents protested in Panchkula and even gheraoed Sector 16 police post alleging police inaction.

They were seeking arrest of the accused, whom they blamed for suicide of their son. Later, the protesters blocked the road outside the police post in the evening.

According to colony residents, the deceased and another group in the colony entered into a fight on Wednesday night at 11.30 pm.

The family of the deceased alleged that the police took both the groups to the police post. Later, the police let off the other group, they added.

“Vicky and three others assaulted Sandeep. We were taken to the police post. The other group was let off, who again assaulted my brother at home. The police had also beaten me up in the custody,” said Rahul, brother of the deceased.

“Later, I came to know that my brother committed suicide. As cops did not take any action against attackers, it resulted in my brother’s death,” he added.

“We have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) against Vicky, Sheeshpal and Jaspal on the basis of the complaint by the victim’s kin,” said Inspector Lalit Kumar, the Sector 14 police station SHO.

Meanwhile, in another case, a 17-year-old girl committed suicide at Sector 12-A on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Neetu, who worked as domestic help and was living with her parents and younger sister in a rented accommodation.

According to the police, the girl committed suicide at 6.30 am. Her parents had gone out of station and she was at home with her 14-year-old sister, who informed the police after she found her hanging with the ceiling fan.

No suicide note was found from the spot and investigation was initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC at the Sector 14 police station, said officials.
