Following the suspension of five protesting teachers associated with the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha, the teachers’ union on Wednesday decided to intensify their stir by holding a state-level “Pol Khol” rally in the city on October 13.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the teachers’ union here on Wednesday. Vikram Dev, district convener of the union, said, “We will hold the rally to expose the government’s claims and their failures in the Education sector.”

He said the Education Minister was befooling the people of the state by claiming that 94 per cent of teachers had agreed to accept the regularisation on a month’s salary of Rs 15, 300. He said, “His claims are totally false. Thousands of teachers have joined our protest and the number will further increase in the “Pol Khol” rally.”

Over 500 women teachers from across the state joined the protest. Six women teachers on Wednesday joined the 11 male teachers who were already on their fourth day of fast unto death. Later, teachers carried out a march from the Dukhniwaran Gurudwara to Bus stand. They also burnt the copy of the government notification.
