Chandigarh: A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing bicycles in the city.



Chandigarh: A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing bicycles in the city. Eight bicycles have been recovered from his possession. Nim Kanta, a resident of Khuda Ali Sher, was arrested at a naka laid by ASI Dilbar Singh near the fire station in Sector 32 on December 2 while riding a bicycle, which was stolen from Sector 34. The police said during interrogation, seven more bicycles, which were stolen from different parts of the city, were recovered from the suspect. TNS 

Cop assaulted, uniform torn 

Panchkula: A constable was allegedly beaten up when he and two other police officials, including a  woman, reached the house of a man in Sector 4 while acting on a 1091 complaint. According to the complainant, Constable Vivek, they had gone to the house of Vinay after receiving a complaint that he was thrashing his wife. “When we reached his house, we heard him shouting at his wife. The door of the house was closed. After the woman managed to open the door, we asked Vinay why he was doing it. He, along with his father Vinod Kumar, assaulted the police team. He even tore my uniform,” the complainant said. A case has been registered at the Sector 5 police station. TNS

One-week Course 

Chandigarh: The University Institute of Applied Management Science, PU, conducted one-week short-term course on research methodology. The course was to give research stimulus to the academicians and researchers and to bring clarity to various statistical concepts, tools and techniques. Experts from IIM-Lucknow, Thapar University, GGSIPU-Delhi, PEC and Panjab University were the speakers. TNS

Two arrested for assault

Ambala: The district police have arrested two persons in separate cases of assault and criminal intimidation. Sumit alias Lucky of Barara was arrested on a complaint by Kuldeep Singh of Barara, who alleged that Lucky and his accomplice Rahul assaulted and threatened him with dire consequences on October 21. In a separate case, Malkit Singh of Baldev Nagar was arrested for assaulting and threatening Avtar Singh of Baldev Nagar on November 9. TNS

Two arrested for fraud

Ambala: The district police have arrested two persons in separate cases of fraud, the officials said. According to the police, Ravinder Singh alias Ravi of Ambala Cantonment joined the investigation and was later released on bail on court orders. A complaint against him was filed by Parveen Kumar of Ambala city, who had accused him of committing fraud in a joint furniture business. Meawhile, Valayati Ram alias Pappu of Sangrur was arrested on the complaint of Silk Ram of Hisar, who had accused him of siphoning off a consignment of tyres. The accused were sent to three-day police custody. TNS

Man arrested for smuggling liquor

Ambala: The district police have arrested Sher Singh, a resident of Kanpur, in a case of liquor smuggling. According to the police, a truckload of 1,350 boxes of illicit liquor was seized in Naraingarh on September 17. The truck driver Sajid Hussain was held with the illicit liquor. During probe, he revealed that Sher Singh was also involved in thecrime. Singh was produced before a local court, which granted him bail , the officials added. TNS

Chandigarh: Sacred Heart School (Sector 26) beat DAV Public School (Sector 8) 3-2 in the ongoing 13th St Kabir Basketball Trophy, with Saanvi scoring two points for the winners. Mannat gathered both the points for DAV School. In another match, Learning Paths School (Mohali) defeated St Peter’s School (Sector 37) 16-2. Seerat Kaur was the main scorer for the Mohali outfit, scoring four points. Anshika with two points emerged as the best performer for St Peter’s team. Vivek High School (Mohali) also marched on by defeating SGHPS (Sector 38) 10-0. TNS
