Three booked for assault

Kharar: The police have registered a case under Sections 353, 186, 341, 506 and 34 of the IPC against Harry, a resident of Khanpur; Sahil, a resident of Kharar, and an unknown person for obstructing a driver of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) from performing his duty and assaulting him.



Kharar: The police have registered a case under Sections 353, 186, 341, 506 and 34 of the IPC against Harry, a resident of Khanpur; Sahil, a resident of Kharar, and an unknown person for obstructing a driver of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) from performing his duty and assaulting him. The complainant, Harjant Singh, told the police that the incident took place on August 22 at the Kharar bus stand around 9.15 am. The accused had parked their car on the wrong side in front of the CTU bus. When the complainant stopped them  from doing so, he was beaten up and his uniform was torn. OC

Two killed in road accident 

Lalru: Two persons died while two others sustained injuries when the car, in which they were travelling in, collided with another car near Handesera here on Friday evening. The deceased have been identified as Mahinder Singh and Inderjeet Singh while the injured are Nirmal Singh and Dara Singh. All victims are residents of Patiala.  The police said the incident took place when they were returning after attending a marriage function. When they reached near the Gulati petrol station near Handesera around 6 pm, the mishap took place. Mahinder and Inderjeet were rushed to a hospital in Ambala Cantt, where they succumbed to their injuries. Nirmal and Dara have been admitted to a private hospital. OC

Youth injured in mishap

Dera Bassi: A 18-year-old youth fractured his leg when the motorbike he was driving collided with a truck on the Barwala-Dera Bassi road here on Saturday evening. The youth, Abhisekh Kumar, a resident of Bhagwanpur, Panchkula, has been admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, for medical treatment. The accident took place when the truck suddenly appeared on the road. Consequently, the youth lost control over the bike and hit it. He was first taken to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, from where he was referred to the GMCH-32. OC

370 examined at camp

Dera Bassi: Ek Onkar Charitable Bunga Trust organised a free eye and dental check-up camp at Gurdwara Bunga Nihalgarh Sahib here on Saturday. The camp was inaugurated by former DGP Gurdial Singh Pandher. As many as 370 patients were examined for various diseases, while 78 patients were screened for cataract surgery to be performed in batches at a hospital in Mohali. The dental check-up camp was also conducted by a team of doctors from Sukhmani Dental Hospital, Dera Bassi. Former Sessions Judge and president of the trust Kirpal Singh said medicines and spectacles were also provided free of cost to the patients. OC

PUCSC organises workshop

Chandigarh: The Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) organised a workshop-cum-seminar on the topic, ‘Various scholarships available to the students belonging to minority community’ on Saturday at the law auditorium. Students were sensitised about scholarships available at the state and Central level. In total, 22 scholarships were discussed. Various issues of the students were addressed, including administrative lapses and clerical problems faced by the students. — TNS

27 Sri Lankan delegates visit PU 

Chandigarh: A youth delegation from Sri Lanka through the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, visited Panjab University on Saturday. A total of 27 young delegates in the age-group of 18 and 30 years along with their team leaders, visited the campus. The NSS unit of Panjab University welcomed the team along with Dr Navdeep Sharma, NSS, Programme Co-ordinator. Sharma shared the importance of the NSS for the young generation. — TNS

350 attend summit

Chandigarh: An entrepreneurship summit - CANNABLE 2.0 - by the Chandigarh Angels Network (CAN) was held at the NITTTR, Sector 26, Chandigarh, on Saturday. Over 350 startups and young aspiring entrepreneurs attended the meet that was addressed by a number of investors. ‘Har hath kalam’ by Harsh Kothari in Patiala received applause for his social impact project of taking slum children to school that has reduced begging by up to 60 per cent in Patiala. Topics like fund raising, celebrating failure and sustainability were discussed at length in panel discussions to guide entrepreneurs. Three start-ups were also selected out of 200 applications, who pitched in to the investors for funding of their projects. — TNS
