Three neighbours arrested for delivery boy’s murder

The 22-year-old Dhanas resident, whose body with multiples wounds was found in Sector 15 here on October 13, was murdered with an ice pick, allegedly by his three neighbours, who have been arrested.

Sandeep, a resident of EWS Colony, Dhanas, who worked as a delivery boy in Mohali, was found dead with multiple wound marks on neck, chest and back. The postmortem report revealed that the victim had 40 stab injuries with a pointed weapon, which led to his death.

SSP Nilambari Jagdale said during the investigation, the accused, identified as Suraj (18), alias Addha, Akhilesh (19), alias Diva, and Ram Ashish (18), alias Kalu, all residents of EWS Colony, Dhanas, who worked as waiters, had been arrested for the murder.

Police officials said it was the birthday of the victim’s brother Mandeep on October 4 and he had distributed sweets in the neighborhood. “Mandeep didn’t give sweets to one of his neighbours, identified as Pardeep, which led to an altercation. The duo then had a brawl and Mandeep hit Pardeep on his head,” said a police official.

Pardeep narrated the incident to his brother Suraj, who was holding a grudge against Mandeep.

Sources said on the night of October 12, Sandeep went to Sector 17 where Suraj and the other two accused also reached. The accused entered into an argument with the victim. However, people there informed the police, following which the victim and the accused left the place.

The accused then chased Sandeep’s motorcycle and intercepted him on the road separating Sectors 15 and 24. The accused then repeatedly attacked him with an ice pick. They hit him on his back, chest and neck before escaping from the spot.

The trio later returned to the spot to check whether the victim has died or not.

Police sources said during questioning, the victim’s kin revealed about his enmity with Pardeep, which led to the arrest of the three accused on Monday.

The police said the ice pick used in the crime was yet to be recovered.

The accused will be produced in court tomorrow.
