MOHALI:Top seed Lakshya Gupta downed Karan Aulak 6-0 6-4 to seal a berth in the boys’ U-14 quarterfinals in the ongoing Roots-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship in Zirakpur on Tuesday.

Top seed Lakshya Gupta downed Karan Aulak 6-0 6-4 to seal a berth in the boys’ U-14 quarterfinals in the ongoing Roots-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship in Zirakpur on Tuesday.

Rijul Bhatia registered a 6-0 6-1 win over Yash Aggarwal in the pre-quarterfinals. Second seed Rishi Dahiya overcame a resilient Yashvardhan Gaur 7-6(6) 7-6(3), while Sajal Kesarwani humbled Anuj Pal 6-4 6-2.

Namish Sharma blanked Vikramdeep 6-0 6-0 and Arnav Malik packed off Gurbaaz Singh 6-2 6-2. Jashan Gupta had an easy pre-quarterfinal outing as he beat Harwin Singh 6-4 7-5 to stay in contention for a place in the semifinals. Kartikeya Saini overcame Jivaj Chawla 6-4 1-6 7-5.

Samarbir sails ahead

In the boys’ U-16 category, top seed Samarbir Singh Sidhu ousted Kartikeya Saini 6-0 6-1 in the per-quarterfinals. Second seed Dhairya Chadha registered a 6-1 6-3 win over Iren Singh, while Aditya Chauhan dispatched Yashvardhan Gaur 6-1 6-1.

Rishi Dahiya made a place in the last eight with a convincing 6-2 6-3 win over Sajal Kesarwani. Lakshya Gupta defeated Pratham 6-0 6-1 and Rijul Bhatia registered an identical win over Shalender Mishra in the pre-quarters. 

Namish Sharma is sighting twin semifinal spots after he defeated Anujpal 6-1 6-1 in the U-16 pre-quarterfinals.

Vanya outplays Bhumika

Top seed Vanya Arora, meanwhile, mastered Bhumika Gupta 6-0 6-2 to march into the girls’ U-14 quarterfinals. 

Anandita Sharma registered a 6-3 6-1 win over Ivleen Kaur, while Jeshna thumped Radha 6-1 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals. Second seed Omisha eased into the last eight with a 6-1 6-0 win over Niharika.
