To accelerate the ongoing construction work of a flyover from Desu Majra to Khanpur bridge, restrictions imposed by the district administration on plying of heavy vehicles on this road were implemented by the traffic police here today. The diversion plan of the administration was also implemented.

It may be recalled that various restrictions were imposed by the Mohali Deputy Commissioner a few days ago which were to be implemented w.e.f. October 15. But these restrictions could not be implemented completely on Monday.

However, the traffic police came into action today and imposed various restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles.

According to the plan prepared by the administration, there is a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles on the Desu Majra-Kharar road and the Chapparchiri-Kharar road and all heavy vehicles have to be diverted from Kurali to Chandigarh, Kurali to Morinda and Landran to Chuni Road.

Today, the traffic police stopped a large number of trucks near the Khanpur bridge and directed to go towards Morinda. As the Kurali traffic police did not stop heavy vehicles at Kurali, several trucks came up to the Khanpur bridge.

Today, the traffic police blocked the Khanpur bridge, Khanpur T-point, Kharar bus stand and KFC Chowk and heavy trucks were not allowed to reach Kharar.

Meanwhile, Kharar traffic in-charge Iqbal Mohammad said these restrictions would remain in force till further orders. No vehicle would be allowed to run on this road from 10 pm to 6 am.

Meanwhile, Krishan Sachdeva, director of the National Highways Authority of India, said the work to widen and repair the old Morinda road was in full swing and it would be completed on Wednesday.
