Patiala, October 21
A parade was held at the Police Lines as a mark of respect to the cops, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, on Police Commemoration Day here today. Arms were reversed and a two-minute silence was observed in the honour of the departed souls at the district level function.
Patiala Range IG Jatinder Singh Aulakh said the police department always led from the front whenever there were efforts to disturb peace and harmony. “Martyrs are a source of inspiration. They inspire each of us to perform duty with devotion,” said Aulakh.
After India became free, the Punjab Police protected Indo-Pak border as well as Indo-Chinese border before the ITBP and the BSF came into being. “Cops from Punjab are also sent for internal security duty to terrorism affected states on a short notice. We salute the families of the brave officers who died in the line of duty,” he said.
Later, Aulakh listened to the grievances of the family members of the martyrs and assured them of resolving these at the earliest.
Earlier, tributes were paid to the police martyrs.
SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said the Patiala police have led by example during tough times. “We are always proud of the brave men who fought with grit and valour,” he stated. The SSP also paid floral tributes to the martyrs.
Others present on the occasion were former IG Paramjit Singh Gill (retd), SP (City) Varun Sharma and SP (Investigation) Harmeet Hundal.
