Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore announced a new housing scheme for residents of the city in his address during the Independence Day function at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 here on Wednesday.
In his address, he recounted the city’s achievements in the fields of education, health, infrastructure and the digital payment system during the last year. He said the UT Administration provided houses to the economically weak section. The CHB would launch a new housing scheme for general public by the end of the year. A proposal for developing a habitat project at the IT Park for residential and commercial purposes was also under consideration.
Meanwhile, Badnore unfurled the Tricolour on the occasion and took salute from contingents of police and NCC cadets participating in the parade.
The Administrator presented commendation certificates to 24 employees of the UT Administration and general public for rendering outstanding services in the fields of public services, art and culture, social service and sports. As many as 17 police personnel were conferred the Administrator’s Police Medal for their distinguished and meritorious services.
The Chandigarh Police received the overall best award in the parade.
UT Adviser Parimal Rai, Home Secretary Arun Kumar Gupta, Finance Secretary Ajoy Kumar Sinha, DC Ajit Balaji Joshi and other senior officials of the UT and the police besides the city residents attended the function.
