Two arrested for liquor smuggling

MOHALI:Two persons have been arrested for liquor smuggling.

Mohali, August 12

Two persons have been arrested for liquor smuggling. As many as 70 cases of different brands of liquor were recovered from them here on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar and Deepak Kumar, both residents of Ludhiana.

Giving details, Inspector Tarlochan Singh, Station House Officer of the Sohana police station, said after procuring liquor from Ambala, Haryana, the duo was on their way to Ludhiana when they were intercepted at a naka here.

“The liquor was being smuggled in a small van (Chota Hathi), which has also been impounded,” said the SHO.

He said they used to bring liquor at cheaper rates from Haryana and sell the same in Punjab.

A case has been registered against the duo under Sections 61, 1, 14 of the Excise Act at the Sohana police station here.
