Two held for immigration fraud

MOHALI: Two persons have been arrested in connection with immigration fraud amounting to the tune of around Rs 60 lakh here.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with immigration fraud amounting to the tune of around Rs 60 lakh here.

The suspects have been identified as Vikas Malhotra and Shriraj, who were running their immigration consultancy office under the name of Dynamic International Group at Phase 11, here.

Giving information, Inspector Gurpreet Singh, Station House Officer of the Phase 11 police station, said the suspects had taken nearly Rs 60 lakh from around 50 persons on the pretext of sending them abroad or arranging job letters to get permanent residency of Canada or other countries.

“Most of them had given money, ranging between around Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, to the suspects two years ago. Some of the victims were also given fake job letters by the suspects,” said the SHO.

Today around 50 victims gathered at the police station after getting information about their arrest. Patiala-based Ravinder Deep Singh alleged that he had given around Rs 1.25 lakh to the suspects. He was also given a fake job letter from some Canada employer to get PR there by the suspects.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh said complaints against the suspects were pouring in.

“The court has granted a two-day remand of the suspects,” said the SHO, adding the FIR against them was registered on September 26 on the complaint of some Haryana-based victims.
