Kharar: Two persons have been arrested after 15 gm of heroin and 30 intoxicant injections were recovered from them. ASI Jaspal Singh said the suspects, who were travelling in a car (PB 08 BS 0036), were nabbed near the local bus stand. Cops recovered heroin from Harvinder Singh, a resident of Amloh, and vials from Jasmeet Singh, a resident of Faridabad. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them at the Kharar City police station. They were produced in a local court on Tuesday. The court sent them to one-day police remand. OC

Thieves flee with cash, ornaments

Dera Bassi: Thieves struck at a house here and made off with cash and other valuables worth lakhs. In his complaint to the police, Parmod Gautam, a resident of Preet Nagar, stated that he, along with his family, was away to Delhi when the theft took place. The family returned home on Tuesday and found the locks of safe broken and cash and ornaments missing. The police have started an investigation. OC

Woman duped of gold bangles 

Kharar: Four suspects, including two women, duped a woman of her gold bangles of three tolas on the Kharar-Landran road on Tuesday. Shashi Bala, a teacher at Government High School, Garangan, was on her way to the school when the incident took place. The matter was reported to the Kharar City police. OC

EME Corps marks 77th Raising Day

Chandigarh: The Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) commemorated its 77th Raising Day at Western Command, Chandimandir, today. Maj Gen VR Deshmukh, head of the EME branch at Command Headquarters, along with all EME personnel in the station, laid a wreath at the Veer Smriti war memorial to pay homage to the martyrs of the Corps. Over the past seven decades, the EME has provided engineering support to the Indian Army by maintaining the operational fitness of all equipment, including vehicles, tanks, guns, communication equipment, radars, missile systems and helicopters. Palak steers Dev Samaj to victory  

Chandigarh: IS Dev Samaj School beat Sacred Heart School by 115 runs to win the girl’s U-19 inter-school cricket championship on Tuesday. Batting first, Dev Samaj School made 172 runs, with Palak Rana hitting a 72. In reply, Sacred Heart girls were bowled out for 57 runs. TNS

Manav Mangal gymnasts shine

Panchkula: Out of 21 gold medals won by Panchkula district in the State Gymnastics Championship held at Rohtak, 18 were bagged by gymnasts from Manav Mangal School, Panchkula. Arav, Sarika, Kanav, Mehak, Nikhil Kumar and Aanandita Sharma won a gold medal each in the individual category. In the mixed pair event, Arav and Sarika topped the 9-11 years age-group, while Kanav and Mehak led the field in the 12-14 years category. Nikhil and Aanandita bagged the gold in the 15-17 years competition. Manav Mangal gymnasts topped the trio event. TNS

Wrestlers Anisha, Abhimanyu on top 

Mohali:  Wrestlers Anisha Dalal and Abhimanyu Rana of Global Wisdom International School, Dera Bassi, won the  first and second position, respectively, in the Punjab Primary School District-Level Competitions held in Mohali. Both grapplers competed in the 25kg weight category.TNS

Rai school win athletics c’ship

Patiala: The 56th All India IPSC (U-19) Athletics Championship came to a grand finale at Punjab Public School (PPS), Nabha, here on Tuesday. More than 600 athletes from 29 public schools of the country participated in the three-day event. Maj Gen TPS Waraich, VSM (retd), Director of Yadavindra Public School, SAS Nagar, presided over the closing ceremony. In the boys’ category, Hazur Baba Madhu Sudan Singh Bedi Inter-Public School Athletics Winners’ Challenge Trophy (running) went to Motilal Nehru School of Sports (MNSS), Rai. Yadavindra Challenge Trophy (Running) for runners-up for boys in the IPSC athletics went to PPS. The trophy for the best athlete (boys) was bagged by Salim from MNSS, Rai. The 56th All-India IPSC (U-19 boys & girls) March Past Trophy (running) presented by PPS was shared by Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun, and The Lawrence School, Ooty. The boys’ team from Motilal Nehru School of Sports (MNSS), Rai, was declared the overall winners. 

SBI training programme  

Patiala: A five-day ‘Train the Trainer’ programme for SBI trainers was inaugurated by Subhash Chand Joinwal, general manager, SBI, FI & MM Network, Patiala, at State Bank Institute of Learning and Development here on Friday. Paramjeet Singh welcomed general managers and all other dignitaries. He said the programme had been organised and conducted in partnership with the BFSI Sector Skill Council of India. 

Science expo 

Patiala: Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School organised a science exhibition in which around 39 schools participated. Four topics of technology and mankind, e-communication device, energy resource and conservation, how to beat plastic pollution were given to all participating schools. Of these topics, each school prepared one static and one dynamic model. TNS
