Chandigarh, October 22

In a bid to check wrong parking in the city, especially during the festive season when the rush in markets increases, the UT traffic police have hired eight private vans to tow away wrongly parked vehicles.

A police official said violations were more rampant during the festive season as a large number of people thronged markets for shopping, leading to a rush and wrong parking.

“The parking lots are encroached upon during the festive season, leaving little space for visitors’ parking. People then park vehicles on roads, leading to traffic snarls,” said another police official. The police said to deal with the issue, in addition to the recovery vans owned by the Chandigarh Police, eight more towing vans had been hired.

The vehicles, accompanied by the traffic staff, would patrol the city and tow away wrongly parked vehicles. The drive would continue till the end of the festive season.
