Veerjeet clinches gold in Junior Nationals

City weightlifter Veerjeet Kaur has won a gold medal in the 49kg weight category at the ongoing Junior National Weightlifting Championship 2019 in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. 

A trainee of Sector 42 Sports Complex, Veerjeet lifted a total of 160kg — 70kg (snatch) + 90kg (clean and jerk) — to beat her closest opponent by a margin of 15kg.

“It is the result of regular and systematic hard work,” said Veerjeet’s coach Karanbir Singh Buttar.  

Earlier, Veerjeet had won a bronze medal in the Khelo India Games.
