CHANDIGARH: A Sector 38 resident was nabbed for robbing a woman of her gold chain. According to the police, the suspect, Akshay (38), a resident of Sector 38 (West), robbed the gold chain from the victim near a private hospital in Sector 38 on April 20. She raised the alarm after which the suspect was nabbed.

Purse snatched in Sector 9

Chandigarh: An Activa-borne miscreant snatched a purse containing cash and valuables from a woman in Sector 9. According to the police, the snatcher, who was riding a white scooter, sped away after committing the crime near house number 3 in Sector 9 on April 20. The police said the purse contained Rs 2,000, a mobile phone and house keys. The woman, a resident of Sector 10, informed the police. The footage of CCTV cameras installed near the spot is being scrutinised by the police. A case has been registered at the Sector 3 police station. TNS

One more held in murder case

Ambala: Officials of the CIA-1 of the Ambala police have arrested a suspect in the Sunil Jain murder case. Jain was killed on November 23 last year. The suspect has been identified as Vivek Kumar, a resident of Bihar. He was produced before a court, which sent him to seven-day police remand. The deceased jeweller was a wholesaler and there used to be a daily movement of about one to two kg of gold from the victim’s shop. The miscreants had entered his shop with the motive of looting jeweller. After Sunil and his employee opposed, the miscreants opened fire and then managed to flee from the spot. While Sunil died, his employee Bharat Bhushan sustained a bullet injury. Around nine persons were involved in the case. Of this, six had already been arrested by the police. TNS

Club owner booked for flouting norms

Chandigarh: The UT police have booked a night club owner after the club in Sector 17 here was found to be open after the permissible hours on April 20. According to the police, the club named Poison was found open beyond the permissible time. The police, who were on night checking, found the club open following which the club management was asked to close it and the visitors were asked to leave. The club owner, identified as Sushant Nagpal, a resident of Sector 44, was booked under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC. He was arrested and later released on bail. TNS

Chandigarh: Police defeated AU Bank by four wickets in the ongoing Tricity Premier League, here on Sunday. Batting first, AU Bank scored 122/8 in allotted 20 overs. Vinod (46) and Sarvpreet (18) were the two main run scorers for the side. Kapil Punia claimed four wickets, while Balwinder took one for the bowling side. In reply, Chandigarh Police posted 123/6 in 19.4 overs. Ramandeep (35) Vikas Rathi (15) were the two main run scorers for the side. Manish Khanna and Shubham claimed two wickets for the bowling side.
