The Traffic Police have initiated a crackdown on wrong parking in Zirakpur by issuing challans to violators, but the move does not seems to deter the offenders as jams are a common sight.
Illegal parking outside the shops and along the service lanes has become a nightmare for commuters. As a result, visitors can often be seen grappling for the parking space on Zirakpur-Chandigarh stretch near Lohgarh.
Most of the vehicles are parked along the roads, thereby reducing the operational area of the road considerably. This causes traffic congestion, time loss, and inconvenience not only to the commuters but for the pedestrians.
Similar is the scenario on VIP road as numerous markets are situated on this stretch. Some of the markets do have dedicated parking lots for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, but the number of visitors has increased manifold who park their vehicles on roads.
Zirakpur Traffic In-charge Sarabjit Singh said, “The police have issued challans to most of the traffic violators and will continue to do so. We are trying our level best to address the issue and urge people to cooperate with us.”
He said yellow line parking slots should be created in different areas to ease parking woes.
