Wrong parking under the flyover outside Punjabi University has been irking many commuters as the road is usually jam-packed throughout the day. Most of the shopkeepers and their customers park their vehicles wrongly under the flyover. They claim they have no other option for parking.

A university student, Shubdeep Singh said: “The road remains jammed throughout the day due to wrong parking. People also keep on driving on the wrong side which at times leads to arguments.”

A resident of nearby Professor Colony, Teghbir Sandhu said: “One or two accidents due to the chaos are common in the area daily. People drive on the wrong side just to reduce their distance. We have complained to the traffic police who challaned the offenders, but the same situation prevails still.”

During the peak hours, traffic congestion is very common. Shop owners say they have not been allotted another parking space, though they were promised the same during the construction of the flyover.

Jagbeer Singh Sidhu, a shopkeeper said, “We have to run our business and our customers always complain about parking. This affects our business as well. They are always forced to park their vehicles on the road.”

Advertisements are also pasted everywhere under the bridge. When contacted, the officials in the Public Works Department (PWD) said there was no encroachment in the area and action would be taken after looking into the matter.
