Youth gets life term for murder

CHANDIGARH: A local court sentenced a 22-year-old youth to life imprisonment for murdering another youth two years ago.

Chandigarh, August 13

A local court sentenced a 22-year-old youth to life imprisonment for murdering another youth two years ago. Ajay, a resident of Colony No. 4, had stabbed two youths in 2016. One of them had succumbed to his injuries. The court also directed Ajay, a rag-picker, to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.

As per the FIR, Ajay had quarrelled with Chacha around two and a half months ago. Ajay’s friends Bunty and Kulbir used to visit Chacha and Ajay asked them to discontinue the same. However, they did not agree. On September 29, 2016, Ajay fought with Bunty and Kulbir. The matter escalated and Ajay stabbed both of them.

Bunty and Kulbir were injured and taken to the GMCH-32. However, Kulbir succumbed to his injuries the next day and a section of murder was added to the FIR. Initially, the FIR was registered for causing hurt with a weapon and criminal intimidation. After the attack, Ajay injured himself with a knife as well and reached the hospital. He claimed that Ajay and Kulbir had attacked him. However, the police doubted his story and after Kulbir’s death, Ajay tried to run from the hospital. However, the police nabbed him. — TNS
