Mohali: The local police arrested a youth with 40 grams of heroin on Friday night. The suspect has been identified as Manish Kumar (23), a resident of Malout, Punjab.



Mohali: The local police arrested a youth with 40 grams of heroin on Friday night. The suspect has been identified as Manish Kumar (23), a resident of Malout, Punjab. He was currently putting up in Mohali village, said the police. Cops stopped Manish on suspicion while he was walking by the Quark City light point on the Airport road. On checking, a polythene bag was recovered from him. The poly bag contained 40 gms of heroin, said Investigating Officer Baljinder Singh. A case under Sections 21-61-85 of the NDPS Act was registered. Manish was produced in a court, which sent him to judicial custody. TNS

MC team seizes unhygienic meat

Chandigarh: A team of the MC on Saturday inspected meat shops and seized around 40 kg of chicken and 50 kg of unstamped pork being sold in unhygienic condition. The team also removed 12 chicken cages and other cutting equipment. The meat hygiene team of the MOH office had raided shops in Hallo Majra, Ram Darbar, Dhanas, Sector 38 (West) and Dadu Majra Colony.  TNS

HP resident sent to 10 years in jail 

Chandigarh: A local court has awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a resident of Himachal Pradesh in a drug case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict, Prem Singh of Shimla district. According to prosecution, the police recovered 1,250 grams of charas from the possession of Prem Singh during checking in the Industrial Area here on June 6, 2018. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect and he was arrested. After hearing the arguments, the court held him guilty under the NDPS Act and sentenced him to undergo 10-year RI. Man arrested on rape charge

Ambala: A woman was raped, thrashed and threatened with dire consequences at her home, the police said here on Saturday. The incident took place on November 16 but it came to fore on Saturday when the victim gathered courage and approached the police. Acting swiftly on her complaint, the police registered a case of rape, assault and criminal intimidation. The police arrested the suspect, Shanti, alias Kalu, in this connection. The suspect will be produced before a court on Sunday, the officials said. TNS

UP man held for smuggling drugs

Ambala: The police have arrested Amit of Shamli in Uttar Pradesh for smuggling drugs, officials said here on Saturday. According to the police, two persons were held with 338 packets of banned narcotic capsules and tablets on November 26. During custodial interrogation, they had revealed that Amit was also involved with them in smuggling of drugs. Another suspect in the case was also arrested on Friday. With this, the total arrests in the case have reached four, said the officials, adding that Amit was sent to two-day police remand. TNS

Illegal mining case registered

Ambala: Illegal mining continues unabated in different parts of the district and it once again became evident with the registration of another police case in this regard, officials said here on Saturday. According to the police, assistant mining officer Sunil Kumar reported that Beer Bhan of Naraingarh was caught carrying out illegal mining on the government land in Dera village near Naraingarh on November 28. The police have registered a case and begun investigations. TNS

Master Athletics meet today 

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Master Athletic Association will organise the 40th State Athletics Meet on December 1 at the Sector 46 Sports Complex. Athletes above 30+ years will be eligible to participate in the meet. The top performers of the meet will be selected to represent the city in the 40th National Masters Athletics Championship, to be held in Kozhikode. TNS
