A Mani Majra-based youth has been sentenced to five-year jail for entering a house and intimidating a family.
The Court of Additional Sessions Judge RK Sharma found the convict, Rohit, guilty under Sections 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50), 458 (house trespass) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. He has also been directed to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 by the court.
In this case, Parmatma, alias Batista, has already been sentenced to five-year jail, while two other accused were acquitted after the complainant had refused to identify them in the court.
As per the complaint of Mauli Complex resident Pawan Kumar, in January 2015, he was in his house with his family and was watching television. Around 10:30 pm, the convicts, along with four other persons, started knocking on his door. On peeping through the window, Kumar saw that the men were armed with swords, bats and sticks. The family thus climbed upstairs and locked themselves inside.
The men then broke open the door and entered the house. As per the complaint, the family members were dragged out of the room in which they were hiding. The men thrashed family members of Kumar leaving several of them injured. They had come with an intention to kill the family members. However, the neighbours gathered in the meanwhile and the attackers fled.
The family then contacted the police who took the injured to a hospital and registered a case against the accused. Parmatma and Rohit had initially been declared proclaimed offenders by the court, but were later arrested and tried in the court.
