New Delhi, October 13
As much talked skywalk is completed and the Union government has announced to inaugurate this, the Delhi government is expressing its satisfaction after congratulating the PWD for completing the project within time, sources said.
The Delhi government has so far not been invited for the inauguration function on October 15, said PWD Minister Satendra Jain.
Jain said, “I congratulate the PWD of Delhi government for having successfully completed the construction of iconic skywalk and foot over bridge (FoB) in one of Delhi’s busiest and central traffic intersection at ITO”.
He said that PWD teams worked day and night to complete the first of its kind project and it is ready to be dedicated to the people of Delhi."
He said that in 2006-2007, the idea to construct a flyover at ITO with an FoB was conceived as part of 2010 Commonwealth Games preparations. But, it was shelved with Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) rejecting the design. In 2013-14, PWD initiated a fresh proposal separating the skywalk from the FoB. In 2015, PWD presented a few designs for the skywalk, which were approved by DUAC in August 2016 that offered to provide 80 per cent of the total estimated cost of Rs 54 crore. Delhi government had agreed to fund Rs 12 crore. — TNS
