New Delhi, October 21
The Delhi Police today organised Commemoration Day Parade in remembrance of personnel who were killed in serving their respective forces between September 1, 2017 and August 31, 2018.
Amulya Patnaik, the Commissioner of Police, read out the names of the martyrs of Delhi Police and State and Central Police Organizations, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, during the period. In all, 414 police personnel including 13 of Delhi Police were killed while serving in their respective forces.
The names of the 13 personnel are SI Khajan Singh (southwest), ASI Dharambir Singh (southwest), ASI Ganesh Das Kardam (west), ASI Ashok Kumar (Delhi Armed Police), ASI Ompal Singh (northeast), ASI Mahabir Singh (traffic), HC Rohit Naib (southeast), HC Vinod Kumar (Delhi Armed Police), Ct. Amarpal (southwest), Const. Bhoop Singh (southwest), Const. Virender Singh Malik (northwest), Const. Binesh Kumar (traffic) and Const. Yashbir Singh (traffic).
On October 21, 1959, a small troop of the Indian policemen — who were stationed at Ladakh for the safety of the nation — was suddenly ambushed and attacked by a huge number of Chinese soldiers, who were hiding in the mountains. In the attack, 10 Indian police personnel were martyred. Since then, to pay homage to these brave martyrs we remember them on this day, said Patnaik. “We also pay homage to brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation in the last one year, he said. — TNS
