Man arrested for raping minor niece

New Delhi, April 17

A 50-year-old man was arrested today in Najafgarh for allegedly raping his minor niece on multiple occasions, said DCP Anto Alphonso (Dwarka District).

The 13-year-old girl walked alone to the police station to lodge her complaint on Tuesday and narrated her ordeal to the police and after which the police called an NGO and in front of them took the girl's statement and sent for a medical examination to DDU hospital. Doctors, after examination, confirmed that she was raped multiple times, the DCP said.

After her medical examination, a case under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and provisions of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act was registered and the accused was arrested, the official said.

Girl's mother died 12 years ago when she was six months old and her father also went missing after which she started living with her uncle.

She also told police that before shifting to a rented accommodation in a nearby area around two months ago, they used to live in the Najafgarh area where her uncle raped her at least four to five times when she was alone, the official said.

According to police, the accused works in a tyre puncture shop and has two sons, who are married, and three daughters.

Police said they are trying to figure out when the alleged incidents took place as the girl could not recall the exact time period. — TNS
