One held with fake notes worth Rs 7.50 L

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has busted an international syndicate of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) and arrested one key player of the racket and recovered Rs 7.50 lakh in denomination of Rs 2,000 notes recovered, said a police official.

The Delhi Police has busted an international syndicate of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) and arrested one key player of the racket and recovered Rs 7.50 lakh in denomination of Rs 2,000 notes recovered, said a police official.

The accused has been identified as Deepak Mandal (32), a resident of Malda (West Bengal). Texture and printing of currency notes is of good quality. It is difficult for a common man to identify the currency as fake, the official said.

The police received Information regarding the attempts of reviving circulation of FICN in India by the members of an international syndicate.

Surveillance was mounted on the movements of members of this syndicate and requisite intelligence was collected. Information revealed that FICN is being pumped into India from Bangladesh through Indo-Bangla border in Malda District.

Information received that on Thursday, Mandal would reach Khanpur in Delhi about 9.30 pm to deliver a big consignment of FICN to one of his contacts, said DCP PK Kushwah (special cell).

A trap was laid at the spot and Mandal was nabbed. Around 375 fake notes amounting to Rs. 7.50 lakh were seized from him, he said.

During interrogation, he said he has been indulging in smuggling and circulation of fake notes for the past 12 years, the DCP said.

Earlier, he, along with his accomplices, used to visit Bangladesh border for procuring fake currency from suppliers of Bangladesh, he said.
