‘Shakti app’ to ensure safety of girl students, women in city

JALANDHAR: The Commissionerate Police (CP) today held a sensitisation workshop on ‘Shakti app’ for school and college students to ensure the safety and security of women in the city.

The Commissionerate Police (CP) today held a sensitisation workshop on ‘Shakti app’ for school and college students to ensure the safety and security of women in the city.

During the workshop, that was held at the Police Lines, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said: “The mobile app has been developed to provide immediate help to the women in need and all the girls and women must download the app in their phones.”

He said by just pressing a ‘HELP’ option in the app, that would send a message instantly to the CP, area ACP and SHO of police station, control room and 10 emergency contact numbers that the app user would add in the app.

Subsequently the help would be ensured promptly to the women.

Interestingly, the application will also give a location of the app user to the emergency contact numbers occupants, police officials and control room.

The CP informed that the application could be downloaded in any android mobiles and its key features include: SoS, report of where I am, click and mail and police stations details. The bilingual app, English and Punjabi, would also help the police in identifying the persons with criminal tendency with the help of the app users who could click their pictures and send to the police for verification to take necessary action further.

He said the main focus of informing about the app was to curb the crime against the women by speeding up the police response. Besides, police teams and officials of the “Saanjh Kendras” would also visit the schools and colleges to make the girls aware of the application and the usage process.

Bhullar also solicited the fulsome support of the schools and colleges to aware the students and others about the app. Besides, he also appreciated Taxi and auto rickshaw unions present during the meeting to extend their support to the police.
