5 arrested for running illegal lottery business

JALANDHAR: Cracking down on racket of illegal lottery business, being operated in the city, the city police have arrested five suspects for indulging in the trade in various areas of the city.

Cracking down on racket of illegal lottery business, being operated in the city, the city police have arrested five suspects for indulging in the trade in various areas of the city. Over Rs 30,000 in cash, mobile phones and computers were also seized from them.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the police had received a tip-off that the business of illegal lotteries was being carried out in the city. Police parties were constituted for nabbing culprits involved in the crime. In separate action, police personnel at Jalandhar Cantt, Police Division Number 6 and Bhargo Camp Police Division today nabbed five suspects involved in this crime.

The Commissioner of Police said the police party of Division Number 6 today raided Promod Lottery Shop, near the bus stand, where illegal lottery business was being operated for the past many months. During the raid, Jagdeep Chand, a native of Himachal Pradesh at present residing at Urban Estate, here, was arrested with Rs 3,800, two computers, iPads and pen slips.

A case under Section 7(3) of Lotteries Regulation Act, 1998, 13A/3/67 Gambling Act, 420, IPC, 294-A, IPC, was registered against Jagdeep Chand, Pramod Yadav, alias Golu, a resident of GTB Nagar, and Pardeep Kumar, alias PK, a native of Jharkhand, at present residing at Hargobind Nagar. However, Pramod and Pradeep are absconding.

Bhullar said the Jalandhar Cantt Police arrested Anil Kumar, a resident of Master Mehnga Singh Colony, and Jatinder Kumar of Kala Bakra. The police recovered Rs 16,720, five mobiles and lottery slips from them. Police teams at Bhargo Camp arrested Ajay Kumar and Shivam Kumar, both residents of New Dashmesh Nagar. They also recovered Rs 10,790, two CPUs, two monitors and ticket printers from their possession. FIRs under necessary provisions of the Lottery Regulation Act has been registered against the suspects and further investigation was going on.
