While addressing a workers’ conference here at local Dana Mandi today, Manish Tewari, Congress candidate from Anandpur Sahib, today accused the sitting MP and Akali-BJP candidate Prem Singh Chandumajra for letting down the people of the constituency from both inside and outside the Parliament.

He said: “During the past five years Sri Anandpur Sahib was mentioned just five times in the Lok Sabha that too written only. That means it did not come for discussion in the House.”

Prior to the conference, a road show was organised. The road show was commenced from Dhamai village and culminate at Dana Mandi. Tewari was welcomed and felicitated by party workers and leaders at various places on the way.

“It is not only that he was found missing from the constituency, Chandumajra was also found lacking in raising the issues related to Sri Anandpur Sahib,” Tewari said.

“Chandumajra was more interested in Sanaur, the assembly segment of his son, that falls in Patiala where he diverted funds meant for Sri Anandpur Sahib,” added tewari.

Later talking to mediapersons, the national spokesman of the Congress said he had envisaged a comprehensive development vision for the constituency, promising to do works he got done in Ludhiana. He asked people that they could confirm and cross-check from their friends and relatives in Ludhiana where he had got approved a textile park, special Shatabadi train for Ludhiana, resumption of flights from Ludhiana and spent Rs 1,500 crores for developing roads falling in rural areas.”

The former minister disagreed with the suggestion that drugs were still available in the state on the same scale as during the Akali-BJP regime.

He said: “During the Akali-BJP regime the drug mafia got official patronage and that is not the case under Congress regime.”

He said: “We are committed to eradicate the drug menace from the state.”

Replying to a question on the transfer of the Inspector General of Police Kunwar Vijay Partap from the SIT probing the Bargadi sacrilege, Tewari said, the Election Commission of India (ECI) should not have done it since it w Dal, the Congress candidate said, he was one of his old colleagues and he did not want to comment on his decision.

He said Brar would not stay for long anywhere and we were not sure for how long he would stay in the Akali Dal.

Tewari disclosed that he had completed the first round of the workers’ meeting in all nine assembly segments falling under the parliamentary constituency. He thanked the leaders, including Rana KP Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Angad Singh, Chaudhary Darshan Lal, Jagmohan Singh Kang, Love Kumar Goldy, Barinder Dhillon, among others, for organising the programmes.

“Given the reliance, I have got during these meetings, it has become clear even much before the nomination as what is going to be the result”, he remarked. Love Kumar Goldy assured him on behalf of the Congress workers of Garhshankar constituency that all would do work jointly for a major lead to Tewari.

Tewari will file his nomination papers on April 29.
