Class X topper Jasmine, cricketer Damanpreet on awardees’ list

JALANDHAR: As many as 88 persons from various government and semi-government departments, including police personnel, doctors, social workers, panchayat members and educationists, would be honoured during the district-level Independence Day celebrations at the Guru Gobind Singh stadium here.

As many as 88 persons from various government and semi-government departments, including police personnel, doctors, social workers, panchayat members and educationists, would be honoured during the district-level Independence Day celebrations at the Guru Gobind Singh stadium here. They will receive special awards for their contribution and achievements in different fields.

Succha Ram, a resident of Samrai village, Phillaur, tops the list of awardees for being an elected panchayat member consecutively for nine times and for performing services efficiently, whereas Jalandhar District Attorney Rishi Bharadwaj, who is on the second spot, would be awarded for hard work and dedication. The bravery award this year has been conferred on Kuldeep Singh for his efforts in saving human lives from burning gas cylinders. Also, District Commandant, Punjab, Home Guards, Kuldeep Singh, will be awarded for his outstanding work in the services of the country. From the office of the SDM, Jalandhar 2, coach Umesh Sharma, District Sports Officer, will be awarded for his contribution in making the recently held ‘Run Against Drugs Mini-Marathon” a success.

In the field of education, DEO (Elementary Education) Kamaljit Singh, BPEO, Goraya, for his distinguished work in the field of education and sports; in higher education, Manoj Kumar, Prof, DAVIET College, Jalandhar, for outstanding contribution to education and various government programmes; Rakesh Kundra for exemplary social work; Neetu Bala Gupta, principal, GSSS, Chak Kalan, for outstanding work as a mathematics teacher; Deepali Sharma for being a highly diligent and conscientious worker; and Col Manmohan Singh for social work, will be awarded.

Jasmine Kaur Chahal from St Joseph Convent Senior Secondary School, here, who bagged the 2nd position in the country, in the ICSE Class X examinations, is among the award recipients. Students who had won laurels in international sports activities will also get awards this Independence Day. Apeejay college students Vasu Kumra and Shresthi Gupta will be awarded for achievements in karate and chess, respectively, at the international level. City boy Damanpreet Singh will also be awarded for his achievement in cricket at the international level.

This year, for exceptional social responsibility, Balveer Kaur and Jasveer Kaur from Kot Kalan village will be awarded for rescuing two drowning youths near Chahedu village. Medical officer Sandeep Randhawa from the office of the Civil Surgeon will receive the award for his distinguished work in Kaya Kalp programme and achieving 100 per cent targets in all national health programmes. Whereas, Santbir Singh Kairon, eminent social worker in the field of health care and medicine, will also bag an award.

In drug-related cases, the SSP, Jalandhar (rural) has recommended awards for sub-inspector Surinder Kumar, 07/JRT, Lohian PS, for his exemplary role in registering many cases under the NDPS Act and for making arrests and recoveries in those cases and SHO Ramandeep Singh, Maqsudan PS, for his exemplary role in recovering drugs under NDPS Act. DPRO, Piare Lal, senior photo journalist, has been recommended for eminent work in the field of journalism for the past 50 years.

NCC headquarters put forth the names of Monika Goswami and Jaskiranjit Kaur for being attended the TSC 2017 and the RDC, 2018, respectively, while Neha will be awarded for winning a bronze medal in the Inter- Group Firing Competition in an event held this year.
