Hoshiarpur records 5 per cent drop than in 2014

HOSHIARPUR: Despite encouraging initiatives such as pink booths and PwD booths were taken to facilitate voters all sections of voters, the voting percentage in Hoshiarpur remained at 59.39 per cent, around 5 per cent lesser than the last year.

Despite encouraging initiatives such as pink booths and PwD booths were taken to facilitate voters all sections of voters, the voting percentage in Hoshiarpur remained at 59.39 per cent, around 5 per cent lesser than the last year.

Pink booths dedicated to women, model polling stations, dedicated PwD booths, pick and drop facility extended to PWD voters remained successful in bringing PWD voters to booths but it could not add to the turnout significantly. This time, as compared to 65 per cent in 2014 LS poll, the turnout percentage could not reach the figure of 60 and remained at 59.39 per cent. In the morning, the voting started at a high note but as the temperature rose, it started to slow down. — OC
