On I-Day, Channi cautions against falling prey to drugs

Punjab’s Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Charanjit Singh Channi unfurled the national flag on the Independence Day at a function held at the Police Lines here on Wednesday.

He inspected the parade along with DC Isha Kalia and SSP J Elanchezhian, led by Parade Commander Gurpreet Singh. A march-past was carried out by the Punjab Police, PRTC Jankhelan, Home Guards, and NCC cadets of 12 Pb Bn NCC Hoshiarpur, Girl Guides and Scouts.

A mass PT show and performances based upon patriotic songs and theme were presented by students of various schools. The Minister appealed the residents of the district to maintain peace and goodwill. He said the main purpose of the state government was to make the state free from drug addiction.

The minister handed over appointment letters to 50 persons under the ‘Ghar Ghar Razgar’ scheme and loan relief certificates to 11 farmers. Freedom fighters were also honoured.

He distributed sixteen wheel chairs, 7 tricycles and 20 sewing machines to 46 persons.

Director (Prof) Dr H S Bains and Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, congratulated the students.
