A talk on hypertension was organised by IVY Hospital here recently.

Dr Ankur Ahuja, a senior cardiologist, said: “High BP can clog vessels or weaken them. It also increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney damage and eye problems. As many as 1.8 billion people are suffering from the disease.”

Dr Ahuja said it was easy to remove stress from the mind by performing yoga and meditation. Dr Amit Gupta said: “BP is a silent killer. It can be inherited. Smoking, consuming alcohol, using contraceptive pills and obesity can make it worse.”

“Simple preventive measures, including cutting down consumption of salt, sugar and oil, increasing physical activity and abstaining from smoking can help manage hypertension,” he added.
