Punjab Roadways to hold mass rally again on Oct 18

JALANDHAR: Taking cognizance of the substandard quality material being used in the newly inducted buses, the permanent employees of the Punjab Roadways have planned to organise a mass gate rally on October 18.

Jalandhar, October 14

Taking cognizance of the substandard quality material being used in the newly inducted buses, the permanent employees of the Punjab Roadways have planned to organise a mass gate rally on October 18.

Balwinder Singh, the district Punjab Roadways Union head said, “The transport minister is interfering in the deportation and transfer policies of permanent workers, which is completely against the rules. The minister has reportedly ordered the director of the Punjab Roadways that none of the transfers would be initiated without her permission, therefore the agitated workers have planned to raise their voice against the authoritative directions of the transport minister.” There were more than 60 permanent employees that were to be transferred to various locations, he added.

In-addition, due to prevailing corruption among the roadways inspectors and officials, poor quality parts have been used in the manufacturing of new buses inducted in the roadways.

The other demands being raised include the duration of workshop exercise to be reduced to 2 years instead of five years, the transport policies of 1990 to be implemented and the family members of the workers should be given free roadways passes. —TNS
